From Zero Plan to a Thriving Business: The Leap of Faith That Built Bare Culture
We often hear that to build something successful, you need a meticulous 5-year business plan, a huge financial cushion, and a crystal-clear roadmap before taking the first step.
The reality? Bare Culture started with zero plan.
No business strategy. No brand blueprint. No guaranteed safety net. Just six years of hands-on experience as a corporate waxer, a sudden realization that staying where I was no longer served me or my purpose, and a profound leap of faith that there had to be something better on the other side.
Knowing When It’s Time to Go
Before Bare Culture was even an idea, I spent six years working for a major waxing franchise, European Wax Center. While those years sharpened my technical skills and taught me the ins and outs of the body care industry, a subtle shift eventually began to happen.
Going to work every single day turned into a heavy, draining struggle. The unhappiness grew so deep that it started seeping into the space around me. My colleagues could feel it, and worst of all, my clients—the people I cared about most—could feel that I wasn't fully aligned or present.
When your work environment starts pulling you away from the person, provider, and community member you want to be, staying becomes a form of self-betrayal.
The Day Everything Changed
One day in April 2021, while standing inside my work suite, a quiet but unmistakable voice inside my head said: It’s time to go. You cannot spend one more day in this environment.
Right then and there, without a backup offer or a pre-planned studio, I called my manager into the room and gave my notice. That shift was my very last one.
I gave myself just two weeks to get a brand-new business up and running. By May 10, 2021, the doors to Bare Culture officially opened to our West Oahu community.
What Happens When You Trust the Call
Taking that leap of faith wasn't about having all the answers—it was about choosing alignment over comfort. I had zero business background, but I had two things that mattered far more:
Unshakeable Faith in My Purpose: Believing that caring for people and building authentic connection was worth taking a risk for.
The Willingness to Take the First Step: Understanding that you don't need to see the top of the staircase to take the first step upward.
Turns out, trusting that inner voice was the absolute best decision of my life. What started as a leap in the dark transformed into a sanctuary for women across Ewa Beach and Kapolei—a space built on vulnerability, self-care, and community trust.
You Don't Need the Whole Plan to Begin
If you are currently sitting in a season of life where something no longer feels right—whether in your career, your personal life, or a dream you've been putting off—remember this:
You don't need to have the entire roadmap figured out before you move.
Sometimes, simply recognizing that where you currently stand is no longer where you belong is more than enough to justify your next move. Trust yourself, listen to what's calling you, and have faith in your ability to handle whatever comes next.
